True story: Faery Ring

Image
I heard a story about a young girl in South Africa that had seen a faery circle. She went to the beach for the summer and must have been spotted by a Faery queen and her troop as soon thereafter she started getting severe headaches. Her grandmother a shaman consulted the ancestors who said she had been marked by a Faery Queen and would be taken away to her realm unless a ritual was performed. In other words this would mean a human death onto a faery birth. The grandmother beside herself with fear quickly performed the ritual, with little explanation to the girl about her predicament. The young woman merely thought she was targeted by a pagan goddess as her grandmother could not remember the English name for faeries. Nevertheless afraid for her life she prayed hard through out the ritual. At the end she of the ritual she caught a glimpse of a beautiful land with a flowing river in which a ring of flowers sunk to the bottom. Was it Tiara na nog she had just seen? Without the ritual wou

First meeting with Prince Stone

This is an extract of Chapter Two of my book Awake: The Chronicles of Chemmis . It is the first meeting of the witch heroine Lindi and her love interest, Prince of the Fey, Stone. Enjoy! Nivi Just as we neared the doors someone came out. I stopped dead in my tracks, eyes fixed on the guy that walked out. “Tall, gorgeous and notorious.” whispered Nadia “ Prince Stone, what’s he doing here?” I was too stunned for words. Stone, Prince of the light fey, what was he doing here again?   I had caught a glimpse of him a fortnight ago coming out of Manu’s house. It was   late and I was on one of my ‘night escapes’.   I narrowed my eyes suspiciously, something big was going on. The fey did not visit at all unless there was a problem and never twice in a fortnight. He focused on me, just as we stopped a few feet away from him. A burst of heat hit my gut, causing me to step back. Cool blue eyes, glared at me reminding me of the icy glaziers in the Arctic Circle. A flash of recognition fill

Faery of the week: Brownies

Image
Brownies are the faeries that inhabit houses. They usually live in an unused part of the house and work during the night. They help with house hold tasks like mending and cleaning. The only form of payment acceptable to them is honey and porridge. If not provide with this or taken for granted they may leave or get angry and hide things, like keys etc. I always leave a little honey out just as a precaution.......Nivi Acknowledgements to elfwood.com for image and Wikipedia

Lost Girl

Image
Lost Girl is a really good TV series about the fey. It has a sassy female detective and a gorgeous werewolf protector. Watch it on Foxtel.......Nivi Acknowledgements to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1429449/  for images

Changelings

Image
A changeling, is a replacement of a human child stolen by the faeries. They are faery children, and according to a story by W.B Yeats are able to talk. If they reveal their true selves they will be forced to return to Tira na nog. The mother in the story boiled egg shells, prompting the changeling to ask what she was cooking. The mother then attempted to ram a hot poker down its throat but lucky for the changeling, the real child was returned. Nivi Acknowledgements to: warseer.com for the image and Y.B. The Traveller's Guide to Fairy sites by Janet Bord

Image
" When we were on holiday in Cornwall my daughter and I came down a winding lane, and all of a sudden there was a small green man by a gate watching us. All in green, with a pointed hood and ears.... We were cold with terror. We ran for the ferry below... I don't think I have ever been so frightened. " This is the first paragraph of  the introduction from the book 'The Traveller's Guide to Fairy sites'. The book goes on to talk about 20th Century faery sightings and locations in the United Kingdom which are faery hotspots. It is an interesting read. Morgan Le Fey

Image
A powerful Fairy queen. Depicted rather poorly in several stories like Harry Potter, but according to folklore she was one of the good ones. Morgan   was a beautiful and very powerful priestess and queen living around the time of King Arthur. She presided over the sisterhood of nine who lived on the enchanted island of Avalon . She was benevolent, helping Arthur throughout his life. Her demotation to sinister enchantress, came simultaneously with the denigration of Fairy by medieval christian writers. They called her a witch and sorceress due to the fear of feminine wisdom and natural magic. Beansidhe - Banshee

Image
The Beansidhe or Banshee is one of my favourite faeries. A female spirit from Irish mythology, she is seen as the omen of death and messenger from the other side. This faery begins to wail if someone is going to die. It was thought at first that they foretold the death of the privileged but their have been exceptions. The banshee, usually appears are an ugly, old hag but has also been seen as a beautiful woman of any age. It is said that King John I(King of Scotland) was approached by a banshee that foretold his death. In some legends the banshee is said to actually be the Irish battle goddess the Morrigan I know she seems like a dismal spirit, but she uses her power of premonition, to help humans (who are regarded as beneath the fey) which is why she is a favourite of mine. Faery of the Week: The Kelpie

Image
A paranormal horse from Celtic legend. Usually black in colour , however some tales speak of a white horse. It is known by its wet mane. It appears to be a lost pony usually roaming near water. Kelpies can transform in to beautiful woman or men drawing their victims to their pools and ultimately their death. The only way to know the difference between them and real horses is to feel their skin which is as smooth as a seals...... Nivi Acknowledgements to Wikipedia and elfwood.com for image.

Faery of the week : Gangcanagh

Image
Gangcanagh , means the'lover talker' . This is a male Irish faerie that is known for seducing women. They are thought to have a toxin in their skin that makes the humans they seduce  literally, addicted to them. The women seduced by this faery usually die from withdrawal, pinning away from their love of this amorous creature. Girls beware of the gangcanagh in your life. Nivi

Real faery encounter

Image
I found this story on the website realitywalker.com. It has a collection of encounters with other world beings. Reading it my dispel your scepticism about the fey. Is it a Fairy or is it a Faerie? My first encounter with a fairy was just off the local popular bridal way near where I used to live in County Durham between Rolands Gill and Medomsley. I had a period when I would jog about a mile or so up the track in an attempt to get fit. Often however, I never made the mile as I would either be dragged into the wood by some fun nature spirits wanting to play or by Herne to be led to some interesting energy areas. On one such occasion I was led through the undergrowth until I emerged by a stream. There was a small overhanging tree on the other side which seemed to have some sort of being sitting in its central branches about two meters from the ground.( Image is copyright © Stephanie Pui Mun Law) How big are fairies and do they carry wands? As I got closer it resolved into a white creat

Faery of the week - Succubus

Image
Hi to all my followers, and thank you for your support. I decided it would be a good idea to post a faery of the week, to dispel all former, ideas that faeries are only small winged creatures. This week's faery is the all alluring succubus. According to medieval legend they are female dark faeries that appear in dreams, as a beautiful woman. They seduce men and by doing so steal life force until the man slowly weakens and eventually dies. A warning to all men, be wary of the enchantress in your dreams. Nivi

Faery Mounds in Ireland

Image
Faeries known as the sidhe are the little people or natural spirits. They are said to have lived in a paralell dimension to us. They are the faeries that are said to have lived in mounds, raths and stone circles in sacred places in Ireland. The word sidhe in itself means mound and the faeries are the Daoine Sidhe , the people of the mound. These faeries are divided into two groups solitary faeries and the trooping faeries who live in the mounds and come out in groups during 1st of May( Beltaine Eve ) and Halloween( Samhaim Eve ). What is faery 'glamour' ?

Faery, glamour is a spell that faeries cast on humans. It enthralls humans making us think we see a beautiful man/women and make us follow them where ever they may lead us. Some faeries use it to take humans to Tira na nog( The Land of Faeries). Read more about this on the web pages of sacrettexts.com in the story... Sneak Peek of Novel - AWAKE- The chronicles of Chemmis

Hi, this is a sneak peek of my young adult novel, Awake. Story is about, an unqualified mage/witch living on the floating island of Chemmis (inhabited by fey and other mysterious creatures) , above Earth and unknown to most humans. Set in present day, her world starts to fall apart and she in thrown into a perilous quest to save her island and ultimately Earth. Hope you enjoy this. Awake: Chemmis 9995 ; Earth 2010 Prologue The problem with finding out who, you really are, is that you might not like what you find. That has always been my fear. I knew from the moment I could understand anything that things came to me. Bad things. Sometimes they came in the form of whispers, soft dark trickles in my ear. Sometimes they came in the form of shadows, a swish of darkness that I may have imagined pass by me, but I never imagined the feelings they gave me. Sometimes they came in the form of acts. Bad things I did, but could never understand why. Only thing I knew for certain was that if

Y.B Yeats and Lady Gregory

A few weeks ago, I went to the Mitchell Library of Sydney to read the first edition of Yeat's book Fairy folk tails of the Irish peasantry, published 1888. It literary sent chills down my spine, my sister couldn't sleep that night. It's a collection of stories from the people living in small villages in Ireland and their encounters with the fair folk. And believe you me its convincing at times, there's a priest and several other valued community members that talk of there experiences. A copy of the book can be found at the Scared Texts website have a read, it makes you re-think what we think we know. Nivi http://www.sacred-texts.com/

Do faeries walk among us?

' The land of   faery, where nobody gets old and godly and grave, where nobody gets old and crafy and wise, where nobody gets old and bitter of tongue.' W.B. Yeats I don't know if faeries exist, but I am doing a lot of research on the folklore of faeries for my novel Awake and some people truly do believe. I think it would be nice to think there was a place such as this, were beings were free and happy all the time. A place were nature lies undisturbed from the stress and efficiency of our human lives. The writings of W.B. Yeats , Lady Gregory and so may others speak of Tira na nog and as a result I to want to believe in the Land of the Fey.
